Portuguese Bend Nature Reserve

Taken from the Burma Road trail in the reserve, located in Palos Verdes at the very end of Crenshaw Boulevard.

This one is from the Rim Trail in the reserve, taken later after the clouds over the ocean lifted. That's Catalina Island in the distance at right.

The reserve is a great place to hike -- and really good place to take visitors from out-of-town to show them a little of L.A.'s wilder side.

The first photo was taken with my Nikon D5100 + DX 35mm lens, which is wicked sharp. The second shot was tough because I was shooting into the sun with my DX 10-24mm lens. I used the rock outcropping to block the sun, cranked up my flash and shot in RAW, which helped me recover detail lost in the shadows when processing the image.

My photos are available as prints at very reasonable prices, including mounted options that are ready for hanging. More info here. Please feel free to check out my SmugMug site for all my work.
