Squirrels are great. They're everywhere, they're bold and they're not terribly camera shy -- good subjects to practice focusing on!
The first and third photos were taken in my backyard, the second one at the Huntington Gardens in San Marino.
All taken with my Nikon D5100 and Nikon 70-300mm telephoto lens (a better lens, I think, than the Nikon 55-200mm that comes as a kit lens with some Nikon DSLRs -- plus the 70-300 will work on an FX camera in case you ever upgrade).
