Elephant seal pup



There's a lot of elephant seals along the Central Coast. Most people see them at the large viewing area near San Simeon, but the seals are found on other beaches. 



The key thing is stay back and bring a telephoto lens. At this area, most of them were sleeping but one happened to be looking around and glanced right at me. 

If it's outside the late fall-early winter time when the big males battle for mating rights, you need to wait for some action. Also, the light is best in the mornings as you're camera is going to more than likely to be pointed westerly into the late day sun. 



Above is a shot with some movement, although it's not a very good photo: the focus is a bit off and the light (directly overhead) is terrible.
