Blue the rescue pit bull, part 3

Just messing around on tonight's dog walk with Blue, the new rescue pit bull. I fired off 60 shots or so to get this one alongside a fountain at Pasadena City College.

Still, it's a bit flawed. The focus is not quite precise -- it was getting dark and I had to shoot at f/1.8 to get enough light, thus the reason Blue's nose is out-of-focus.

Thus, a lesson for you dogographers out there: The length of a dog's snout makes it tough to get close to a dog AND shoot at wide open apertures. It's usually better to stop down a bit if you want to get both the dog's nose and eyes in focus.

That said, there are no rules here. One of my favorite doggy pics of my other pooch, Sammy, has his nose in focus but his eyes out of focus. Sometimes just a little bit of focus is enough.

SmugMug lets you customize your page and sell prints and licenses -- unlike, for example, Flickr. I also think photos look better on SmugMug than Flickr or Facebook due to the way those sites compress big files.
