Eye of the Dog

A couple more of our new rescue pit bull named Blue (here are some earlier pics).

For the top photo, I used my Nikon D5100 and Nikon 50mm 1.8 lens -- set at 1.8 aperture. I was at ground level a few feet away and tried to get the center focus point right on Blue's eye. It's always good to take photos of dogs from their level instead of looking down on them.

In this case, I had the camera pointed up at her and blew out the sky, which wasn't hard to do given that it was overcast. No big deal. The white sky looks good in this case and I didn't even try to recover the highlights.

The bottom photo was also taken with the 50mm 1.8 lens, this time set to a very shallow aperture of f/2. I like the effect, which is kind of dreamy and the nice soft tones of the blue bed.
