My humble and one-day late contribution to National Dog Day photos. My girl Blue.

Hoover Wilderness backpack

We finally got into the backcountry for a long weekend with a trip to East Lake in the Hoover Wilderness. As far as Eastern Sierra backpacks go, this one was pretty easy -- just 4.5 miles or so and about 1,500 feet of gain. The lake is very pretty (and sort of popular), but we nabbed a great campsite overlooking the water for the last couple nights. Hiking in the area is good, with a very scenic stroll up to Summit Lake on the Hoover-Yosemite border.

Fly-fisherwoman

Just got back from weekend backpack in the Eastern Sierra, including a stop on the way home to fish McLeod Lake above Mammoth. Got skunked fishing, but got this nice shot of the domestic partner casting. It was taken with her Olympus OMD EM5, a cool micro 4/3 camera -- there's something nice and retro about the look of the shot.

And another taken on the ride home, at Taboose Pass Road in the Owens Valley, of the DomiPartner:

More from the trip soon.

Beer league hockey

With my team sadly vanquished in the first round of our beer league playoffs, I swung by the rink for the division championship game. It would have been more fun to play so I distracted myself by running my relatively new Nikon Df through the paces.

Owens Valley

A few photos I took last month driving from Yosemite back to L.A. via the Owens Valley. These are really just snapshots, mostly along the smaller roads that peel off U.S. 395, the main highway that runs down the spine of the Valley.
