Winter sunset over Cedar Breaks National Monument

Winter sunset over Cedar Breaks National Monument.

Taken from a popular overlook along Highway 143 near Brianhead, Utah. We actually visited earlier in the afternoon and returned at sunset. I had seen the snowdrift earlier and figured I would use that as the main element in the foreground, hopefully leading the eye deeper into the canyon.

The sunset wasn't crazy colorful -- the previous night's was better. But I like the way the red, white and blue parts of the photo come together along with some orange.

The photo was taken with my Nikon Df and the Nikon 18-35mm wide angle lens -- which is very sharp and less expensive and less heavy than the wider 14-24 and 16-35 options.
