Riding shotgun through L.A. at night in black and white

Just screwing around with the camera while riding home from Santa Monica to Pas one night.

Construction in downtown Los Angeles

The old parking lots are finally falling by the wayside. New buildings are going up across much of downtown. This photo was taken of work on the new hotel (I think) across Figueroa from Staples Center. I was in that part of town and brought my camera because the weather was weird with a sprinkle of rain blowing through.

The big thing I was trying to do was get all five cranes in the same shot and get rid of the clutter. I was using a wide angle lens but may have been better off finding a different vantage point and trying a telephoto.

Blue the Dog in Santa Monica

One of the better Blue the Dog pics I've taken in a while. A rare smile.

Taken with my cheapo Nikon series E 28mm manual focus lens on the Nikon Df. Even at f/5.6, the nose is a little fuzzy. The lesson: stop down if you want your dog's entire snout in focus.

Owens Valley Radio Observatory & Klondike Lake

Looks like early evening is the time to shoot the observatory from Klondike Lake. This viewpoint is just east of U.S. 395. In black and white, which I don't like as much -- this needs color:
