Gray whale watching from Oxnard

Took awhile but finally got to see some whales hanging out between Anacapa and Santa Cruz islands. My favorite photo was the top one in black and white that has four strong shapes from a compositional point of view -- ocean, island, sun and bird.

Sorry to all the folks I almost brained with the telephoto lens! Very civil crowd and always nice to see folks engaged. The best thing about these big events in L.A.: they're a reminder again how crazy great diverse our region is.

Vasquez Rock County Park

A few snaps from a nice walk around the park Sunday. I've driven by the park for more than 20 years and never bothered to pull off the 14 freeway and actually check it out. So finally drove over there for a nice walkabout on Sunday. It's pretty photogenic. A few snaps above.

Palm Springs weekend

Just messing around with colors and shapes while walking around. The bighorn sheep was at Whitewater Preserve, just north of the 10 near Palm Springs -- well worth visiting for a hike and photography.

I like photos taken through windshields, btw, and I don't consider it lazy. Through-the-windshield is how many people see the landscape, IMHO.
